At the core of the album, within the stylistic spectrum that La Sra. Tomasa unfolds in 1040, we find a nucleus of their signature sounds.

The recently-released sophomore album Tempestuoso (Lulaworld Records), from Toronto group Tio Chorinho, is 10 tracks of new and classic Brazilian choro music, bursting with spirit and soul, and featuring a tour de force appearance by powerhouse vocalist Flavia Nascimento.

Representant of a unique musical tradition

Totó La Momposina’s entire life has been dedicated to representing the music of Colombia’s Caribbean coastline. As a singer, dancer and teacher she embodies that fertile place where Colombia’s African, Indigenous Indian and Spanish cultures mingle to create a unique musical tradition. Totó is not only its greatest interpreter, but also a restless innovator.

Jazzy moods

8 intimate pieces by singer-songwriter Roxana Amed - recorded in different cities and with small ensembles - with a jazzy mood that distinguishes the singer when approaching popular music.

The “swing” of the merengue and the fusion of Jazz and Afro-Dominican rhythm

This album blends Dominican rhythm with contemporary Jazz Fusion by using the Pambiche rhythm unique only to the Dominican Republic. Pambiche is a music genre, which derives from the Merengue Tipico, a traditional style of Merengue.

A rich collection of NeoBop, NuJazz, Funk and Latin music

"Uber Chill" brings together elements of various musical styles combined with unexpected instrumental solos, richly layered synth sounds, hip rhythms and bluesy, funky guitar hooks.

'Hacer el Amor' is rich of Latin rhythms and melancholy. A true tribute to Latin culture whether at home or in the diaspora. Se nace y se vive como se puede, pero cada cual escoge ser quien es.

Heard and felt

The "Isle of Saints' is an aural composite of Bill King's travels throughout the Caribbean region as heard inside his head and felt in his heart.

Deportation police

The title of Battle of Santiago’s third release, La Migra, literally translates to ‘deportation police’. A title which the band must have chosen from a very personal perspective, simply because all of the band members have had to migrate at one point for one reason or another. All the tracks on ‘La Migra’ were derived from various recorded jam sessions.
